God Calls the Preacher to Comfort

Bible Verse | Isaiah 61:1-3

The preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ is often given a bad name and
erroneously compared to someone giving others a scolding. The preaching of

the gospel of Jesus Christ has unfortunately become associated with and viewed

purely from the negative. The preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ is not for

whipping people across their backs to make them feel as if they are miles from

the Kingdom of God after life and the world has given them a first whipping. The

preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to call the people to repentance and

salvation in Jesus Christ, to establish order and discipline in the church, to

perfect and mature saints for ministry, to inspire people to serve and to prepare

people to meet our God. The preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to

bestow on the people a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness

instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. God

calls the preacher to comfort all who mourn through the proclamation of the

Lord’s favor which sets the captives free, binds up the wounds of the hurting and

the discouraged, heals the broken and bruised, and releases the people from the

prisons of hopelessness and joylessness.
