Issues of the Heart

Bible Verse | Jeremiah 17:5-10

Our hearts are naturally inclined toward sin and it is easy to forsake the call of

God to live obedient lives before Him. The heart is deceitful above all things. In

other words, the sin that we commit is an issue of the heart. The condition and

the inclination of the heart make it easy for us to walk in sin without realizing or in

some cases caring about the depth of our disobedience to the Lord. We seek to

fulfill the passion and desires of our hearts and God is the only one who is fully

aware of the condition and inclination of our hearts. Yet, in the midst of His

knowledge of our inclination toward sin, God still graciously and mercifully sent

us His Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Our hearts may be

deceitful. Our natural inclination may be toward sin. But now we have the ability

to fulfill our choice not to sin and overcome every sin because of our trust and

confidence in the Lord. Our trust and confidence in the Lord provides for us the

strength we need to overcome the temptations of this world because without the

Lord on our side we would fail and fall.
